
"The Tank" Continues to Roll at NAAFS Caged Fury 6

(02/22/09 - Cleveland, OH) - The NAAFS made a successful return to Gray's Armory on Saturday February 21st, 2009 for Caged Fury 6. The top stars in the Pro & National Amateur Series delighted a sold-out crowd of NAAFS Nation supporters with a night of intense mixed martial arts action inside the NAAFS Cage.

In the main event, Frank "The Tank" Caraballo (11-4) remains undefeated as a pro with his 1st round victory over Phillip Tomblin by Guillotine Choke @ 4:16.

The hometown crowd was solidly behind the Cleveland native, with chants of "FRANK THE TANK!" ringing all throughout the Gray's Armory. With the win, Caraballo continues to work his way up through the NAAFS Pro Series Lightweight rankings.

Afterwards, Caraballo made his intentions clear as to whom he would like to face next and we'll have to wait and see if that "dream fight" takes place.

In Pro Series Light Heavyweight action, Jason "Freebird" Freeman (9-3) made a successful return to the NAAFS when he defeated Chase Minor (7-3) by TKO at 1:32 of Round 1.

Both fighters came out like they were shot out of respective cannons looking to end it early and decisively.

Ultimately it was the Freebird who connected with the knockout shot, which led to referee Rich Fike calling a stop to the action.

At Caged Fury 6, Nick "The Savage" Duell unveiled a new weapon in his arsenal that fans had yet to see: elbows.

The 2007 National Amateur Middleweight Champion improved his overall record to 12-3-1 with TKO victory over Josh Miller (5-2) at 2:12 of Round 1. Duell took full mount on his opponent and began reining down a series of elbow shots to the side of the skull, until the referee called a stop to the action.

With the win, Duell continues to work his way up the rankings in the NAAFS Pro Series Welterweight division.

NAAFS Original Dustin "The Reaper" Kempf (9-2) made a successful return to the organization by defeating 2008 National Amateur Welterweight Champion Lyle Sansoucie (5-2) by Rear Naked Choke at 2:04 of Round 1.

Kempf looked like he hadn't missed a step in an explosive fight that left the entire arena a buzz.

Afterwards, a very elated Kempf thanked the NAAFS Nation and is looking forward to returning to competition.

H20 MMA's Mickey Hughes (6-3) made a successful pro debut at Caged Fury 6, defeating Josh Leach (2-2) by TKO at 1:53 of Round 1.

As an amateur, Hughes faced the toughest competition available including Frank "The Tank" Caraballo, DJ Jacobucci, & Nick "The Savage" Duell.

Now as a pro, Mickey Hughes look to be maintaining his moniker as one of the toughest competitors in the NAAFS.

The 2008 NAAFS Achievement Awards presentation ceremony took place during intermission at Caged Fury 6. The winners included 2008 Pro Fighter of the Year - Jason "Dynamite" Dent, 2008 Amateur Fighter of the Year - Adam Farrell, 2008 Fight of the Year - Joe Heiland vs. Torrance Taylor, 2008 Knockout of the Year - Frank "The Tank" Caraballo, 2008 Submission of the Year - Cody "The Wolverine" Stevens, 2008 Comeback Fighter of the Year - Ryan "The Lion" Madigan, & 2008 Team of the Year - Jungle Fight Team. In addition, there was one more award for the 2008 Standout Fighter of the Year as named by members of the NAAFS Rankings Committee and the award went to Stipe Miocic.

The John Hawk Ground & Pound was in full effect, as 2008 NAAFS National Amateur Co-Heavyweight Champion "Big" John Hawk (6-0-1) defeated Pete "King Kong" Hunter (7-4-1) by TKO at 1:25 of Round 1.

Both fighters exchanged punches, before the fight ended up on the mat.

From there, Hawk took the mount and finished off another tough opponent by ground and pound TKO.


Doug Kulbis (5-0) remains undefeated in MMA competition, defeating the previously unbeaten Harley Leimbach (5-1) by TKO @ 1:28 of Round 2 in what many fans called the fight of the night.


Marcos Pecina (5-0) of USA Martial Arts made a successful splash in the NAAFS National Amateur Middleweight division he defeated Trey Duplessie (3-1) of Krav Maga Fight Fit by TKO at 2:50 of Round 1



In the National Amateur Women's division, one half of the B*itch Twins Amber Powell improved to 3-1 with a win in enemy territory over Stow, OH's Marcia May (3-2) by Armbar at 1:58 of Round 1.


Brandon "Bad Intentions" Poindexter (3-0) of Pain Headquarters continues to draw attention in the National Amateur Lightweight division, especially after his submission win over Kyle Dolan (3-1) at Caged Fury 6. Poindexter locked in a Guillotine Choke at 2:41 of Round 2 for the victory.
Huey Contreras (2-1) made an immediate statement in his NAAFS debut, defeating Mike Mason (2-4) with a thunderous KO at just :19 of Round 1.

In a National Amateur Bantamweight division battle, two highly touted warriors battled for three solid rounds.

In the end, it was Jungle Fight Team's Bill Fienberg (2-1) picking up the unanimous decision victory over Team DNA's Lucas Barr (0-1).


Bill Morosetti (2-1) of H20 MMA made a successful return to the NAAFS at Caged Fury 6, defeating Dean Gillepse (1-1) of Nutter MMA by TKO at 0:58 of the first round.

In National Amateur Middleweight action, Tom Wilson improved to his record to 2-0 with a keylock submission win over Kenny Cutler (1-3) at 0:44 of Round 2.


In the opening fight of the night, Dave Overton (1-0) of Jungle Fight Team made a successful MMA debut with a win over Chauncy Alcorn (0-1) of USA Martial Arts by TKO at 1:06 of Round 1.
