The NAAFS Nation Soaks in a Night of Full Contact Kickboxing
(10/05/09 – Akron, OH) – Back by popular demand, the NAAFS Nation was treated a night of Full Contact Kickboxing at Chapparell’s in Akron, OH. Several of the top names in the National Amateur & Pro Series traded in the MMA gloves for boxing gloves and provided the fans with an action packed night of action that many are calling the best NAAFS kickboxing event to date.
In the main event, World Combat League and UFC veteran Ryan “The Lion” Madigan improved his overall kickboxing record to 27-4 with a TKO victory over “Relentless” Rho Brower (4-1). The bout started out with both men trying to feel the other out, connecting with a series of leg strikes.
By the end of the round, Madigan had found his rhythm and continued it throughout the second round. Realizing their competitor was defeated, Brower’s corner called a stop to the bout declaring Madigan the winner by TKO.
After the fight, Madigan told the crowd that although his dream was always to be a professional kickboxing, he would be returning to MMA in the near future.
In the other featured professional bout, Elonzo “Hollywood” Harvey (15-0) showed once again why he is considered by many in the NAAFS Nation to be a kickboxing legend with a TKO victory over Doug Bowling (4-2).
Harvey’s kickboxing roots go back to the days of the old Extreme Kickboxing events in the area and he has previous wins over names like Joe Heiland and Adam Sadny.
Harvey unleashed a fury of offense that Bowling was unable to combat, which resulted in Hollywood picking up the TKO victory when his opponent couldn’t answer the bell for the second round.
2006 NAAFS National Amateur Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Ellison returned to competition for the first time in over a year in a successful kickboxing debut against Scott Smith (0-1) of Painesville, OH.
Ellison has always been respected for his stand up game and at Full Contact Kickboxing he showed why, earning the TKO victory at :51 of the second round.
Ellison declared he still intends on turning pro on some point, but that he wants to perfect his overall game before doing so.
In National Amateur Lightweight bout, NAAFS veteran Joey “Hitman” Holt defeated Andrew Huffman by Split Decision.
After the bout, Holt declared that he would be returning to the NAAFS at Caged Fury 8 on November 25th in his hometown of East Liverpool, OH against Rhett Northcraft in what has turned into a local rivalry.
Evolve MMA’s “Super” Mario Micale showed once again why he is called “your favorite fighter’s favorite fighter” with a TKO victory over Josh “Money” Blake at 1:10 of the third round. Micale kept pressing the action forward, scoring several knockdowns against Blake.
In the end, the referee called a stop to the action in the final round and declared Micale the winner.
In other action, Team GriffonRawl’s Landon Khakdoust defeated Chris Melillo by Unanimous Decision, Dan Farnworth scored the Split Decision win over “Drucifer” Dru Shottenheimer, Rick Foster of Team Triple Threat defeated Joe “The Postman” Foutty by Split Decision, and Justin Devastalli beat Eric Ocheltree by Split Decision as well.
