(07/27/09 – Geneva, OH) – The NAAFS’ summer tradition continued, as once again The Cove on the Geneva-on-the-Lake strip played host to War on the Shore 3: The Summer’s Biggest Bash. In addition to the battles inside the cage, the NAAFS Nation also held a collective battle against the elements as well. However, not even the threat of rain could stop what turned out to be a night of amazing fights that will no doubt have a profound impact on the 2009 National Amateur Series rankings.

In the main event, 2008 National Finalist & #3 ranked in the National Amateur Welterweight division “The SPV” Sean Paul Veilleux (4-2) of Ohio BJJC defeated Jeremy Joles (5-4) by Unanimous Decision.

The time off and moving up in weight class might have cost Joles in this one, as he was unable to follow through on a few shots that allowed for Veilleux to find the openings that he needed.

By the final round, Veilleux took complete control of the fight and was able to earn the decision victory on the judges’ scorecards.

In the co-main event, Graham Governor of Strong Style Fight Team remained undefeated (7-0), when he defeated Reggie Parks (5-2) of Team GriffonRawl by Majority Decision.

The crowd was electric for this one as they battled back and forth in what many fans considered to be the fight of the night.

The fight was so close that one of the judges had it scored a 28-28 draw, with the other two scoring it 30-27 and 29-28 respectively for Governor. With the win, Governor adds even more blood to the already very deep National Amateur Welterweight Division.

Kevin Zalac (6-0-1) showed why he is the top ranked fighter in the National Amateur Middleweight division, defeating the previously unbeaten Chase “Y U Doem Like That” Owens (3-1) by Triangle Choke at 2:50 of the first round.

Owens brought his game early one, but Zalac was able to counter and earn himself the submission win.

Now he looks to be in control of his own destiny as the road to December heats up in the National Amateur Middleweight division.

The National Amateur Lightweight division took center stage as Kenny “The Black Spartan” Jackson (4-1) of Strong Style Fight Team continued to impress, this time scoring a second round TKO victory over Blaine Bailey (3-2) at 1:34.

Bailey took the fight on just a weeks notice, moving up a weight class just to have the opportunity to take at a Nationally ranked NAAFS fighter.

In the end, it was Jackson who proved once again why he is consider amongst the best fighters in the National Amateur Lightweight division.

The term heart is thrown out a lot in MMA, but that is the only word that can be used to describe Ryan “The Loose Cannon” Lose at NAAFS War on the Shore 3. Fighting in his own backyard, the Montville, OH native was in control for about 8 minutes and 50 seconds of his fight against Cory Ruthsatz. However, it was in that final 10 seconds where Lose showed the true heart of a competitive warrior.

Caught in a deep armbar, Lose refused to tap despite the hearing the sound of his own arm beginning to snap and pop. With all the strength he could muster, Lose (4-1) held on to earn the Unanimous Decision victory, despite what would later be determined as a fracture in his arm.

After the win, Lose entertained the live audience by not only thanking all the great fans, but leading a memorable rendition of Happy Birthday as well to NAAFS Ring Announcer Jake Digman.

USA Martial Arts continues to show why they are rapidly becoming one of the top teams in the NAAFS, when Larry Ray (4-2) defeated #4 ranked Bill Morosetti (3-2) in a National Amateur Welterweight fight.

Ray debuted for the NAAFS back at Northcoast Showdown 3 and has since pulled of two impressive victories in a row. This time scoring the win by Guillotine Choke over Nationally ranked Bill Morosetti of H20 MMA.

This win over a ranked fighter could be what it takes to put him in the mix as the year winds down.

In National Amateur Featherweight action, “The Evolution” Kyle Dolan (5-1) continues to add victories to his resume, this time defeating “Drucifer” Dru Shottenheimer by TKO at 1:18 of the first round. Dolan connected with a thunderous punch and while although it seemed like Shottenheimer was looking to rebound, the referee called a stop to the action.

In any event, the win improves the Team Lock Haven fighter to 5-1 and is another to be considered in the mix in the National Amateur Featherweight division.

Team GriffonRawl’s “Bonesaw” George Comer (3-0) remained undefeated with a Unanimous Decision victory over Andy Crabill (3-1) of Hess MMA.

Garrett “The Timebomb” Conaway (4-1) of Team Nowhere is now somewhere as he made an immediate impact in the National Amateur Heavyweight division, defeating the previously unbeaten Mike Perry (5-1) of Rising Dragon Fight Team by Tapout From Strikes at 2:04 of the first round.

Medina, OH native Jason Taylor (2-4) played the role of spoiler successfully when he defeated Geneva’s own Trevor “TNT” Traven by Guillotine Choke at 1:57 of the first round in their National Amateur Featherweight fight.

Team Lock Haven’s Nick “The Bolt” Hyatt (1-1) scored the biggest victory of his career thus far by defeating the highly touted Cody “No Love” Garbrandt (0-1) of Mainstreet MMA and Instigator Fight Team by  Rear Naked Choke at 2:06 of the first round.

A new record was set in the National Amateur Women’s division, as “The DNA Princess” Jessica Zomcik (1-0) made an impressive debut with a first round TKO victory over Janel Krafft (0-1) at just :26, setting a new record for the fastest win in the Women’s Division.

Eric “The BackStabber” Howell (1-0) of Strong Style Fight Team became an immediate force in the National Amateur Heavyweight division with his Tapout from Strikes victory over Mikey “The Kid” Calandra in less than a minute into their fight.

Zak Gilyard (1-0) of Ohio BJJC secured the first victory of his career when he defeated “Supah Fly” Tom Salvator (0-1) by Rear Naked Choke at 2:24 of the second round in their National Amateur Lightweight division fight.

In the National Amateur Light Heavyweight division action, Mark Bodnar (1-0) of Team JAD defeated Kyle Heggenstaller (0-1) by Guillotine Choke at 2:18 of the first round.
