(10/29/09
- Canton, OH) - Although this year isn't quite finished yet, the NAAFS
Nation already has something to look forward to in 2010. The NAAFS
is pleased to present a special four-man tournament to crown a new
Pro Series Featherweight Champion, which will begin in February at
Caged Fury 9 from the Gray's Armory in Cleveland, OH and will culminate
at Fight Nite in the Flats VI at the Nautica Pavilion in Cleveland,
OH in June.
The
top contenders who will be competing in this tournament include 2006
National Amateur Lightweight Champion Mike Nesto, Dustin "The
Reaper" Kempf, Nick Sorg, and Donny "Eagle Eye" Walker.
Walker has also signed a 3 fight deal with the NAAFS for 2010.
The
decision for this tournament comes after over a year of turbulence
in the Pro Series Featherweight division, with champion Cody Stevens
being unable to defend his title due to injury and ongoing personal
issues along with a pending uncertainty as to when he would be able
defend his belt.
The
NAAFS Board of Directors has made the decision to move forward and
showcase the existing deep talent pool of top prospects and contenders
in order to crown a new champion.
NAAFS.tv
recently caught up with the competitors for their thoughts on competing
in this tournament.
“It’s
a huge honor to be invited to take part in something like this and
hopefully I can win more NAAFS gold,” commented Mike Nesto.
“The
NAAFS is the best organization around and they’ve always been
good to me. I’ve only fought the best fighters and I’m
looking forward to doing it again when I walk out the new champion
in June,” added Nick Sorg.
“I
have been fighting for the NAAFS for about 5 years now and I’m
honored to apart of something of this level and get an opportunity
at the title,” said Donny Walker.
“Ive
been fighting in the NAAFS since their second ever event and Im honored
to have worked my way up to this point and earn the opportunity to
fight for such a prestigious title. Im a new fighter now and I cant
wait until I can prove it and win my title,” stated Dustin Kempf.
"We
feel this is something that the NAAFS Nation can be excited for,"
commented NAAFS representative Steve Hindman. "Our competitors
in this division are phenomenal and will only get better as they push
each other toward the Featherweight Title. The NAAFS is on the verge
of expanding its distribution and televised programming and we look
forward to showcasing these top competitors as we move forward into
2010 and beyond."
Hindman
went on to discuss the reasoning for this decision.
"We
at the NAAFS consider Cody Stevens a friend and he is always welcome.
We do however also need to look out for the best interests of all
our professional featherweight fighters and the NAAFS fan base as
a whole," added Hindman.
